ALBUQUERQUE BALLOON FIESTA
October 2-7, 2008
Activity Level: Level 3
The
appeal of the southwest is even greater during October with
the beautiful Indian summer’s cloudless
turquoise skies and golden cottonwoods shimmering
along the Rio Grande.
But there’s another, even more compelling reason to visit
in October:
The magnificent
Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta
with the jewel-colored mass ascension at dawn and exhilarating
balloon glows at twilight.
And
that’s
not all! This trip takes us on a walk through time when we
visit the Indian Pueblos, see
the beautiful architecture
of Santa Fe and fascinating culture of Taos.
Join us on this interesting and diverse tour and witness one
of the most colorful events unmatched anywhere in the world.
Day 1: Our departure today, starting at Aurora, takes us across
Nebraska with pickups along I-80. Our destination and welcome
dinner is in Colorado Springs, nestled in the foothills of
the beautiful Colorado Rockies.
*Brown Bag Breakfast & Dinner included
*Drury Inn, Colorado Springs
Days
2,3 & 4: We make our way south, traveling
through the scenic Santa Fe mountain range and stopping for

an authentic
Indian Pueblo.
Arriving in Albuquerque on Day 2, we spend the next three nights
and enjoy many exciting activities: the incredible mass ascension
of hundreds of colorful balloons, plus the beautiful balloon
glow and fireworks in the evening; a guided tour of Old Town
including a visit to the Indian Pueblo Cultural Center and authentic
Indian dancing.
A tour of the beautiful old city of Santa Fe reveals its captivating
pueblo architecture. While in Santa Fe we visit the Loretto Chapel
with its unusual spiral staircase (it is told this was built
by a mysterious carpenter who later disappeared)
