Girlfriend Getaway
Three Day Motorcoach tour
September 5-7, 2008
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Level Three

You deserve it! Take time off from work and home, get your girlfriends, load the bus, and come rejuvenate on this Girlfriend Weekend Getaway to the Kansas City area. You can “shop till you drop”, be royally entertained, laugh a lot, enjoy delicious meals, or just “kick back” and relax!

Day 1 With pickups along I-80 starting in Lexington, enjoy a Brown Bag Breakfast along the way with relaxing entertainment and snacks that takes us Historic Weston, MO.

Experience unique shopping in lovely pre-civil war buildings. You’ll love the variety of shops, restaurants, pubs, brewery, wineries, in this quaint Historic town, where shopping has been a tradition since 1837.

As you stroll the street, you’ll see that Weston is a haven for talented artisans, craftsmen, musicians, and writers, and has one-of-a-kind shops you simply won¹t find in ordinary shopping centers. There¹s a clothing boutique for creative dressing...a jeweler featuring estate pieces and custom work...handcrafted, custom and antique reproduction furniture...a candle maker pouring daily...folk, stained glass and textile artisans...photographic art galleries...an old time hardware store....an old fashioned soda fountain... And, of course, there are several shops featuring the antiques and collectibles that gave Weston recognition by Midwest Living and other magazines as one of the top antiquing towns.

After checking into our lovely hotel in Overland Park, KS, we will enjoy a relaxing and entertaining evening, along with delicious food at the New Theatre Restaurant.
**Brown Bag Breakfast and dinner included **Drury Inn, Overland Park, KS

Day 2 Today we head to Atchison, KS and the famous Nell Hill’s. Mary Carol Garrity established Nell Hill’s in 1990 in an old bank building in her hometown of Atchison, Kansas, naming the store after her maternal grandmother who was an early Kansas pioneer. This landmark retail store has become legendary in the decorating world—more than ninety-five percent of Nell Hill’s patrons travel more than 100 miles to visit Mary Carol at her flagship store. The hunt is part of the adventure at the original Nell Hill’s, where the pursuit of a great accessory at a great price is part of the excitement. Every visit here is a different indulgence, as each floor is redecorated, restocked, and reinvented to accommodate a never-ending flow of new seasonal accents and accessories.

Discover why 75,000 visitors a year report that visiting this cozy, comfortable shop is like going to one big party. Over the past twenty-five years, Mary Carol has garnered national attention with Forbes magazine dubbing her “one of the hottest little retailers” in America and as an added bonus, we will be doing a tour of her home. Entrepreneur Mary Carol Garrity’s business savvy and designscapes have garnered national attention from CBS’s The Early Show, NBC’s Today shows, The Wall Street Journal, Fortune, Midwest Living, Country Living, Victoria, and many more.

After a delicious dinner at the Parkerhouse, we enjoy a narrated trolley tour through  “the most haunted town in Kansas.
**Breakfast & dinner included
**Americ Inn, Atchison, KS

Day 3 This morning we will enjoy browsing the Kiwanis Fall Flea Market on Main Street in downtown Atchison, with three blocks of merchandise for sale or trade.

After a farewell lunch and tour at the beautifully restored 1885 Whiskey Mansion in the heart of Historic St. Joseph, Missouri. we head back home, very relaxed and enjoying all of our newfound treasures.

NOW SHOWING: “The Last Romance”, at the New Theatre Restaurant, starring Marion Ross from Happy Days, is a heartwarming boy-meets-girl comedy. What makes this one unique is that the boy and the girl are senior citizens! Love, like aging, they discover, is not for the weak or those without a lively sense of humor. Paul Michael plays Ralph Bellini, a vigorous, full of life octogenarian with an eye for the ladies. Ralph has had a few years to hone his best jokes and pick up lines. Marion Ross is Carol Reynolds, an attractive, very well dressed woman of a certain age who never expected another chance at love and had no defenses against Ralph.
